“Give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out of doors by somebody I do not know.” – John Keats, English poet.
“Music, like rain, drop by drop, seeps in to hearts and enlivens it” – Romain Rolland, French writer and mystic
The relationship between music and the weather is an easy one to understand. Both are capable of many shades and varieties and it’s no accident that songwriters throughout the ages have picked up on how useful an analogy can be made between the ever-changing moods of both the weather and people, being that the weather so seems to affect our moods and general well-being. When the sun comes out to play we happily rush out to do the same, when the black clouds descend it makes it much more likely that our own black clouds will follow suit.
Ah yes, the many vagaries of human life are intimately tied to those of the environment, and so for our latest playlist we present to you 60 of our favourite songs which use the weather and the seasons of the year to talk about what it is to be human in some way. And if it seems like there’s a preponderance of rain songs you can put that down to the fact that where we live, here in Liverpool and over there in Bogota, there is a preponderance of rain itself. Enjoy!
