‘Waiting for the Stars’ by Vitalic feat. David Shaw And The Beat

The latest video release from this French artist is winningly strange and funky. Pascal Arbez-Nicolas aka Vitalic has been around for a good few years now. His 2005 debut lp Ok Cowboy was a particular favourite of one half of this blog back in the day and since then he’s been pretty busy, with his fourth studio album proper Vitalic (there’s also a live album and a DJ mix album). I guess you would describe his sound as electroclash disco with attitude if you were looking for a description. But I’m not, so suffice to say it made me jiggle my Read more »

New Reels: ‘Do Matter’ by Plaid

New Reels: ‘Do Matter’ by Plaid

Stalwarts of British electronic music return with the second single from their forthcoming album The Digging Remedy. Plaid seem to have been around forever. In fact, they’ve been around for some 25 years making music that fits in to any number of categories whilst at the same time not really fitting in to any of them. You can call it IDM, ambient-techno, post-techno; whatever you like, but ultimately it doesn’t really matter, least of all one suspects to the duo themselves. New Reels: ‘Old Skool’ by Metronomy

This week we showcase the new single from this highly groovy British electronic four-piece. It’s almost ten years since Metronomy released their first lp Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe) and this July sees the release of their fifth entitled Summer 08, which is preceded by this, the lead single. It’s great fun and yet has a definite dark edge borne of the increasing sense of discomfort arising from the couple’s ever clearer loathing of each other. As Read more »

Named after a prominent New York-based civil rights and education activist, the duo teamed up around 2011 with Valance bringing cool, deep house grooves and Howie contributing vocals, guitar and songs. ‘Tearing Me Up’ is the second single to be taken from Days Gone By and Read more »

Unforgettable Live Performances: Daft Punk at Bercy, Paris – 2007

Unforgettable Live Performances: Daft Punk at Bercy, Paris – 2007

Choosing this unforgettable performance was difficult because there a 2 specific Daft Punk performances that come to mind and both are just visual and musical experiences that I feel are pretty much unbeatable, the runner up performance was Daft Punk at Coachella in 2006 (more on it bellow) but I decided to go with Live at Bercy because it ended up becoming the Alive Album, released in 2007 and which went on to win the Grammy for Best Electronic/Dance album in 2009 but most importantly, the hearts and devotion of a generation!
