Controversial and best comeback video ever: “Outside” by George Michael.
There are definitely a lot of videos to be analyzed, as well as new releases, celebrations, anniversaries and current or historic events to write about, and we intend to spice things up and with shorter articles but with our characteristic entertaining spin and take on things. We are kicking things off with George Michael s´ “Outside” video. Why you may ask? Three reasons: A day like Today (April 7th) in 1998: George Michael was arrested at The Will Rogers Memorial Park for committing a sex act in a public toilet. 2. The video is extraordinary 3. The man won my respect with his reply. OUTSTANDING.
GEORGE MICHAEL “OUTSIDE”
He was arrested by undercover Beverly Hills police officer Marcelo Rodriguez (member of the “Pretty Police”)!!!!!!!! . Michael later said; “I was followed into the restroom and this cop – well, I didn’t know he was a cop at the time obviously started playing this game. I think it’s called – I’ll show you mine, you show me yours, and then when you show me yours, I’m gonna nick you!” The singer was later fined $810 (£500) after being convicted of a “lewd act.” George Michael responded the way a true artist would: using his personal experiences and incorporating them into his art.
The video was released in October 19th that same year (5 months later) which also proves the saying “Revenge is a dish best served cold”. It was directed by Vaughan Arnell (STOP EVERYTHING PEOPLE, THIS IS THE SAME MAN THAT DIRECTED DEAD OR ALIVE´S “YOU SPIN ME ROUND”.) “I Think I’m Done With The Sofa
I think i’m done with the hall
I think i’m done with the kitchen table, baby
Let’s go outside (let’s go outside)
In the sunshine
I know you want to, but you can’t say yes
Let’s go outside
In the moonshine
Take me to the places that i love best”
The video is not subtle at all and made evident references to the bathroom incident, the undercover police officer and turns that bathroom into a 70´s porn disco party! This video made me respect George Michael as an artist and gave the Beverly Hills Police the finger it properly deserved.
