Michael Jackson´s legendary album, one of the best selling albums of all time and which made Jackson the first solo artist to have four singles from the same album on the Billboard Hot 100.
Kicking of the album is the grooviest of songs. Yes. THE GROOVIEST EVER. “Dont Stop ´Til You Get Enough”. Michael wrote and sang ahd it was the first time Micheal had creative control which of course brought this party anthem to life (I know I sound like an aunt praising the man but then again, I am an aunt and I am praising him).
Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough – Michael Jackson
The song was Number One on the Billboard chart for 6 weeks. It sold more than 2 million copies in the US going Gold and Platinum and Michael won his first solo Grammy with it. The video was directed by Nick Saxton who also did videos for Bob Dylan and Earth, Wind and Fire. The man was brilliant as he split the screen in 3 and showed Michael doing different dance moves. Michael looked cool in a tuxedo and we all know he could dance so nothing else was needed.
Rock With You – Michael Jackson
The second single on the album was, besides being the wardrobe inspiration for the 80´s classic series Automan another huge success. It became the 4th biggest single of the 80´s. The video was directed by Bruce Gowers. It is, let´s be honest. monotonous and a copy of “Dont Stop ´til You Get Enough”
Today, the album has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. There are great songs like “Working Day and Night” and cheesy songs like this one but it is definitely an album that showed the world Michael´s artistry and though no one could have predicted the phenomenon he would become, it certainly set him apart from Motown and the youngest member of the Jackson 5. This was someone who was going to be around for a while.
The song that has grown on me with the years is the one with the same name as the album. It is a classy, funky, well written and well produced song.
